SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Utah inmate who escaped from the Daggett County Jail is back in the state prison today.

Juan Carlos Diaz-Arevalo waived extradition to Utah in a Sweetwater County, Wyo., courtroom yesterday and was immediately picked up by Utah Department of Corrections officers.

Diaz-Arevalo and Danny Gallegos escaped from the jail Sept. 23, slipping through a broken door and scaling a fence topped with razor-wire. They were caught six days later after stealing a retired Salt Lake City police officers car near Green River, Wyo.

Diaz-Arevalo was captured and jailed, while Gallegos was shot trying to escape police on foot.

He was listed in critical condition today at University Hospital.

Also today, corrections officials moved another 20 state prisoners from the jail to other facilities after a review of jail security processes.

Corrections director Tom Patterson says the state is working with county officials to resolve those concerns.
