SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah's biggest airport is looking at getting even bigger.
Officials at Salt Lake City International Airport are considering expansion options that would add gates and destinations for the undersized facility.
The airport was originally designed to handle 12 million passengers a year. Two years ago, Salt Lake City had 22 million passengers.
Expansion plans for the airport have been around for 10 years, but stalled after the 2001 terrorist attacks and financial struggles in the airline industry. But the outlook is improving, and airport officials are ready to talk expansion again.
Airport executive director Maureen Riley says the airport needs more gates to accommodate more flights.
At this point, just how to expand the airport hasn't been decided. There is also no timetable or cost estimate.
