BEAR LAKE — A 12-year-old Boy Scout has died after being pulled from Bear Lake Wednesday, a Boy Scouts of America spokesman said.

Officials say the boy is from Las Vegas and was scuba diving when the accident occurred on the east side of the lake, north of Laketown. The boy was recovered at about 12:35 p.m. and CPR was performed.

Jule Wager, an executive assistant with the Boy Scouts, said the boy was staying at the Bear Lake Aquatics Base and it appears he was participating in regular campground activities when he became distressed and drowned.

Utah State Parks spokeswoman Deena Loyolla said the boy was recovered by Rich County sheriff's deputies and transported to a hospital in Logan where he was pronounced dead.
