BOUNTIFUL — The northbound lanes of I-15 near Bountiful were closed briefly on Thursday morning as law enforcers looked for a robber. Police now say the man they took into custody is not the person they were looking for in connection with a robbery.
Just before 7 a.m., Dick's Market in Bountiful was robbed.
"The clerk saw him get in the passenger side of a maroon late-model Cadillac," said Lt. Ed Biehler with the Bountiful Police Department.
A short time later, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the getaway vehicle. Since he knew the robber had a gun, officials made the decision to make a felony stop along I-15.
"What that means is that's going to be a high-risk stop, high risk for everyone involved, the law enforcement officials involved and the public," said Dwayne Baird with the Department of Public Safety.
With the help of additional units, troopers shut down the northbound lanes of the freeway as a precaution as they approached the vehicle. I-15 motorists reported seeing up to a dozen UHP cars converge on the scene and troopers with weapons drawn.

The freeway remained closed as a police K9 was used to check the rest of the vehicle.
The man in the vehicle was taken into custody, but it turns out he is not the person wanted in connection with the robbery. That man is still on the run.
Detectives continued Thursday to a look for a male Polynesian, about 25 years old, 5-foot-8 with a stocky build. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and a baseball cap.
Investigators believe there may have been more than one person involved in the robbery.
