MOAB — An Arizona woman drowned Tuesday in a kayaking accident on the Green River.

Shirley Palmer, 73, of Tucson, died after her inflatable kayak flipped over at the Wire Fence Rapid on the Green River, according to the Grand County Sheriff's Office. The accident occurred about 11:30 a.m. about 37 miles upriver from the town of Green River, Emery County.

Other kayakers who were with Palmer were able to get to her after about 15 minutes. They attempted CPR but were unsuccessful, the sheriff's office said. She was taken to Swasey Takeout, where deputies were notified.
