LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Students in the Cache County School District will be taking a test before they can participate in extracurricular activities.
The district is starting mandatory drug testing this fall. That means whether the students play football or play the tuba, they're required to take the test.
Students in grades 9-12 who want to participate in events sponsored by the Utah High School Activities Association will be tested before the season. Some will be randomly picked for tests later in the year.
Students who test positive for any of six drugs could be suspended or barred from activities. Their academic standing would not be affected, nor would names be forwarded to police.
