MURRAY -- A new store is coming to Fashion Place Mall in Murray and it will be a first for Utah shoppers.
Crate & Barrel will be one of 17 new stores at the mall opening next year. The home and furniture store will be located next to the Cheesecake Factory, in the same spot as the old Nordstrom building.
"They're very excited to enter the Utah market and we're thrilled to have them here at Fashion Place," said Celeste Dorris, general manager for the mall.
The 29,000-square-foot store is currently under construction. It's all part of the mall expansion now in phase two, which will add an additional 98,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
"These are collections that are going to be first to market, first to Utah. They are really contemporary and reflective of the modern consumer in Utah," Dorris said.
Fashion Place Mall and Murray City both say it's an exciting time. Despite economic challenges, the mall continues to flourish.
The first phase of renovation was completed in 2009 with the opening of an expanded Nordstrom. Mayor Dan Snarr says the redevelopment of Fashion Place puts Murray on the map as a premier destination for shoppers and businesses.
"Our mall, we feel like, is one of the most upscale malls in the state of Utah. It basically makes a statement that when they make a decision where they are going to locate, they're going to make a decision where they know they'll be successful and they'll be successful in Murray city," said Snarr.
Crate & Barrel opens November 2011, just in time for the holiday season next year.
