The Utah State Fair began Thursday. Just in time for its opening, fair officials are changing their ad campaign.

The television and radio ads featured a man singing about funnel cakes and pigs.

The chairman of the Utah State Fair Board, Lorin Moench Jr, says the board was unable to preview the ads before they started running. When they saw the ads, board members felt the ads didn't fit their needs.

"The two that we had set up, we just didn't feel that they met the demographics, just the flavor of the fair," Moench said.

He says board members will replace the ads with those from the ad campaign of two years ago. They feature a little girl and a cow and were well received.

Moench says the fair board probably should have used those ads for a couple of years to save money.

"People only see the ads for a week and a half or so, and then there's nothing else for a year," he said. "If it's a good ad, why not use it? Our Napoleon Dynamite ad was a classic."
