TAYLORSVILLE -- Police arrested two men accused in the robbery of a Key Bank in Taylorsville Thursday.

Just before 3:30, a man wearing a black bandanna carrying a black bag walked into the bank near 1900 West and 4700 South. Police say he handed the teller a note demanding money.

Once he had the money, police say the suspect took off and got into a Honda with Nevada license plates. A witness saw smoke coming from the vehicle, possibly from the dye pack, and alerted police.

The suspect was arrested just before 6 p.m.

"A dye pack was involved and the dye pack did go off into the vehicle, and that's how the witness was able to know something was wrong," said Lt. Rosie Rivera with the Taylorsville Police Department.

The witness got a good description of the suspect's vehicle and the license plate. The suspect threw the money out the window as it was eastbound on Quailstone Drive.

A Unified police officer spotted the vehicle in the area of North Temple and 1950 West. He followed the suspects to the Sleep Cheap Motel at 1999 W. North Temple.

Officers with Taylorsville police, Salt Lake police, the Joint Criminal Apprehension Team and FBI agents surrounded the motel and evacuated several rooms before arresting two suspects around 6 p.m.

Both men were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of bank robbery. Police have identified one of the men as Darrell Lee Fox of Salt Lake City. The other suspect is being uncooperative and police are still working to identify him.
