SPRINGVILLE -- Springville High School football player Brandon Curtis has died from brain injuries received in a parking lot accident Tuesday.
In a statement sent to the media, his parents Jesse and Dianne Curtis said, "Brandon was a young man who lived life to the fullest. He always gave 100 percent in everything and never did anything halfway."
According to his parents, Brandon, 18, was an organ donor and his wishes are being honored. "He is as giving in death as he was in life," said Dianne.
Brandon was the oldest of the Curtis' seven children. Brandon was preparing to serve an LDS mission after his senior year in high school.
Curtis and three other members of the football team crashed a Jeep right after practice. Witnesses say they were making too sharp of a turn and the vehicle rolled, throwing the boys from the Jeep.
His parents say he was "closer than brothers" with the other three boys involved in the accident and they ask that everyone continue to pray for the other boys.
"We have received so many calls and so much love and support. We want to extend our gratitude to everyone for showing us such so much support. We also want to give a special thanks to everyone at the hospital for their talents and sensitivity," said Jesse.
Springville High School football coach Scott Mitchell said, "I'd want my son to grow up and be like Brandon Curtis, and he always cared about those less fortunate and was always a very giving person."
Funeral arrangements for Brandon Curtis are still pending.
On Tuesday, the four teammates had piled into an open-top Jeep and, according to police, started spinning donuts in the parking lot. Although, some witnesses say they just made too sharp a turn and then overcorrected.
The other teens involved have not been identified, but we do know all of them are on the Springville football team and are between 16 and 18 years old.
