OGDEN -- For over 20 years, the Washington Heights Baptist Church has conducted humanitarian missions in poor countries around the world.
This year, however, the group decided to cancel plans for overseas help and do their volunteering right here at home.
With the help of the city, the volunteers selected 24 homes in Ogden's central city that needed a lot of work.
Church Missions Pastor Jimi Pitts says that's just what his volunteers were able to provide.
"Out of those 24 homes, we've done roofs, porches -- renovation of five porches, complete renovation -- cement work, siding, painting every home and landscaping, as well with full sprinkler systems," Pitts said.
The work is paying off. Before-and-after photos show a big improvement to the homes.
