SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Supreme Court Nominating Commission has selected six nominees for an upcoming vacancy on the Utah Supreme Court.

Justice Michael J. Wilkins will retire May 15.

The nominees to fill his slot are:

  • 2nd District Judge David M. Connors
  • 3rd District Judge Royal I. Hansen
  • 4th District Judge David Mortensen
  • Lawyer and BYU law professor Thomas R. Lee
  • Utah Appeals Court Judge Carolyn B. McHugh
  • Jeanette F. Swent, chief of the civil division at the U.S. attorney's office

The public has 10 days to comment before the names are submitted to Gov. Gary Herbert. Herbert will then have 30 days to select a candidate. The Utah State Senate will vote on Herbert's selection.
