SALT LAKE CITY -- Formal charges have been filed against a man accused of trying to rob a Sugarhouse apartment, but ended being shot by the homeowner.

Last week, Ronald Whitelaw stumbled into a gas station near 2300 S. and Highland Drive with gunshot wounds to his leg and stomach.

He was arrested the next day when the homeowner called police to report he fired two shots at the intruders about a half hour before Whitelaw was found.

Whitelaw is now charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and second-degree felony use of a firearm by a restricted person.
