MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid says defender Raphael Varane has a left hamstring injury that could keep him from playing in the return match against Napoli in the Champions League.

Varane was hurt in the 2-1 loss at Valencia in the Spanish league on Wednesday.

The club said tests on Friday confirmed the injury. It did not say how long Varane will be sidelined, but similar injuries require more than a month of recovery time.

Madrid beat Napoli 3-1 in the first leg of the round-of-16 matchup.

Madrid's next game is at Villarreal on Sunday in the Spanish league.

Zinedine Zidane's team leads the league by one point from Barcelona and three more than Sevilla. Madrid also has a game in hand, at Celta Vigo.
