BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Hungary and Romania drew 0-0 Friday in a European Championship qualifier as fans clashed before the game, with police using tear gas and water cannon.
On the pitch, four Romanians and three Hungarians were given yellow cards in a match full of fouls.
Also in Group F, Northern Ireland defeated host Faroe Islands 3-1 to go top and can now directly qualify for Euro 2016 if it beats Hungary on Monday.
Northern Ireland leads the group with 16 points, one ahead of Romania and four clear of Hungary, with three matches left.
Finland beat host Greece 1-0 in the group's other match.
Both Hungary and Romania came close — a 25-meter (yard) shot by Adam Szalai was blocked by Romania goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu, and a shot by Romania's Claudiu Keseru challenged Hungary goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly after taking a strange bounce.
Ambulances took away several fans injured in clashes around Groupama Arena before, during and after the match. Fans threw rocks and garbage at police, who said at least 13 people were detained. No serious injuries were immediately reported.
Gareth McAuley scored twice and Kyle Lafferty got the other for Northern Ireland in Torshavn. Joan Edmundsson claimed the Faeroes' only goal but picked up a second yellow card as the home side played the final 25 minutes with 10 men.
Joel Pohjanpalo scored late to give Finland a 1-0 victory over Greece, which is at the bottom of Group F.
In one of the Finns' few chances, the Fortuna Dusseldorf forward took a rebound and slotted the ball into Orestis Karnezis' net in the 75th — eight minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Greece, the 2004 champion, squandered several scoring opportunities and has now failed to score a single goal in any of its home Euro 2016 qualifiers.
Finland is fourth in Group F with seven points in as many games, while Greece is sixth with two points.
