SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The stray cat that ran on the ice before San Jose's second-round series opener now has a name but is still looking for a permanent home.
The Sharks said Sunday that the black cat that appeared during warmups Friday night will now be called "Joe PAW-velski" in honor of San Jose captain Joe Pavelski.
The cat was recovered by arena staff after leaving the ice and will be sent to an animal shelter where it will undergo a full health examination and a microchip scan, to ensure it does not already have an owner.
If the cat is healthy and has no microchip, the Sharks say it will be put up for adoption.
