T25 BASKETBALL-POLL

Top two spots should remain the same

UNDATED (AP) — The new Associated Press men's basketball poll is due out later today and based on the fact that neither of the top two teams lost a game last week, it is a good bet that Florida and Wichita State will remain 1-2. The No. 1 Gators beat South Carolina and Kentucky to up their record to 29-2, while the second-ranked Shockers won the Missouri Valley Conference title with wins over Evansville, Missouri State and Indiana State to increase their record to 34-0.

Last week's third, fourth and fifth-ranked teams all lost, paving the way for Villanova to possibly move up to third as the Wildcats won both their games last week over Xavier and Georgetown.

NBA-SCHEDULE

Heat look for a win

UNDATED (AP) — Flash!!! The Miami Heat have lost three straight games.

Tonight the team led by LeBron James will attempt to get back in the win column with a victory over the Wizards in South Beach.

Other first-place teams in action tonight are the Clippers and Raptors. Los Angeles, which has won seven straight to move within three games of the Spurs in the Western Conference race, is home to Phoenix, while the Raptors, who have won three in a row and are now nine games over .500, are at Brooklyn. The Nets are four games back of the Raptors in the Atlantic Division race.

In the remaining games tonight the Atlanta Hawks, who currently hold down the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference, are at Utah while Denver is at Charlotte, the Knicks are home to the 76ers and Orlando is at Milwaukee.

NHL-SCHEDULE

Pens and Ducks look to move back into first

UNDATED (AP) — Pittsburgh can regain the top seed in the NHL's Eastern Conference with a win tonight in Washington. The Pens fell a point back of the Bruins yesterday and with two points tonight would take over the top spot with 90. The Bruins have the night off.

The same scenario fits the Anaheim Ducks as they trail idle St. Louis by one point. Tonight the Ducks, who have 93 points, are home to the Maple Leafs.

The Capitals can help their cause for the final playoff berth in the East with a win over the Penguins tonight. Washington has 70 points, one back of Columbus and idle Detroit. The Blue Jackets are at Dallas tonight in a game that means a lot to the Stars as well. They start the day holding down the final playoff berth in the West with 72 points, three more than Phoenix, which is skating at Tampa Bay.

The rest of the games feature Nashville at Ottawa, Winnipeg at Colorado and the Canucks at home to the Islanders.
