GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers have signed receiver Geronimo Allison and safety Jermaine Whitehead from the practice squad.
Allison and Whitehead were promoted to the active roster on Monday. They replace receiver Jared Abbrederis (quad) and safety Chris Banjo (hamstring), who were placed on injured reserve.
The addition of Allison may mean that all-purpose receiver Ty Montgomery will continue to get extensive snaps at running back to help replace the injured Eddie Lacy and James Starks .
Allison played relatively well for the Packers in the preseason. He is an undrafted free agent from Illinois.
Whitehead adds depth to the Packers' secondary.
Cornerback Sam Shields is on injured reserve because of a concussion. Cornerbacks Damarious Randall and Quinten Rollins have groin injuries.
Green Bay also added receiver Dez Stewart to the practice squad.
