INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Colts coach Chuck Pagano says defensive tackle Montori Hughes had not been at practice recently because his infant daughter died from a sudden illness last week.
Maveah Alice Hughes was 3 months old. Pagano did not provide many details about what happened but did offer condolences to Hughes and the baby's mother, Leigh Burton.
Pagano did not say when Hughes is expected to return to the team or whether he would play in Saturday's preseason game against New Orleans.
Hughes had seven tackles in four games last season as a rookie, and the Colts hope that the 6-foot-4, 350-pound Tennessee native plays a bigger role on the defense this season.
