Safe Kids Utah strives to make Utah a safer place for children. Most people are surprised to learn that preventable injuries like car crashes, drownings, fires, and falls are the leading cause of death to kids. Since 1995, Safe Kids Utah and their 14 chapters across the state have been successful in preventing unintentional injuries and deaths by raising community awareness and promoting safety. With summer upon us, it’s important to know how to keep our families safe. Here are the top ten tips to help kids have fun and stay injury-free. Supervise children around water; educate your children about swimming safety; wear life jackets; learn CPR; wear a helmet for biking and other wheeled sports; use appropriate car seats and buckle up every ride; never leave your child alone in a car, not even for a minute; wear a helmet and other appropriate safety gear while riding Off Highway Vehicles; drink water during sports; and supervise children around fireworks. SelectHealth recognizes the prevention efforts from Safe Kids Utah as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
