WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is nominating a Coast Guard vice admiral to be the next Coast Guard commandant.
Vice Adm. Paul F. Zukunft would replace retiring Adm. Robert J. Papp.
Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson announced Zukunft's nomination internally Friday afternoon . The Coast Guard is part of Homeland Security.
Zukunft is a 1977 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy. He is currently commander of the Pacific Area and Defense Force West.
