WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are having an evening out, celebrating senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett's birthday.

The celebration is taking place at Restaurant Nora near Washington's DuPont Circle, just a few blocks from the White House. The restaurant is known for its organic cuisine and as a favorite of Hillary Clinton's.

The White House says the first couple and Jarrett were joined by a few close friends. Jarrett's birthday was Thursday.
