WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will attend a memorial service Sunday for victims of the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said Obama wants to mourn the loss of life in Monday's massacre and share in the nation's pain after another mass shooting.

Details about where and when the memorial will take place were not immediately announced.

At a White House event on Wednesday, the first lady expressed her "sincere heartbreak over Monday's tragedy."

She said, quote: "The men and women who lost their lives devoted their careers to protecting our country."

A dozen people were killed in the shooting. The shooter, Aaron Alexis, was also killed.
