SENTUL, Indonesia (AP) - A multinational anti-terrorism exercise has officially kicked off in Indonesia, with 872 elite soldiers taking part from 18 countries.

Indonesia's Military Chief Gen. Moeldoko and U.S. Ambassador for ASEAN, David Carden, opened the four-day drill Monday on the outskirts of the capital, Jakarta.

Moeldoko said the threat of terrorism needs serious attention from all security elements, especially the military.

Carden expressed the hope the participants would share best practices and information to better cooperate in confronting the problem in the region.

Indonesia has been battling terrorism since the 2002 bombings on the resort island of Bali killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists.
