LOS ANGELES (AP) — The son of a co-creator of the children's show "Barney and Friends" has pleaded no contest to shooting and wounding his Malibu neighbor.
City News Service says 29-year-old Patrick Leach entered the plea Thursday to assault with a semi-automatic weapon and shooting from a vehicle causing great bodily injury. He could get 15 years in prison.
Leach's mother is Sheryl Leach, co-creator of the PBS show about a purple dinosaur who plays and sings with children.
Prosecutors say that in January 2013, Patrick Leach drove onto his neighbor's property, accused the neighbor of trespassing, and shot him during the resulting argument.
A .45-caliber bullet went through the man's chest and exited through his shoulder.
Leach was caught a couple of miles away.
