NEW YORK (AP) — It's not all about spell-check.

The New York Public Library is displaying some cool artifacts that celebrate the written word.

"Spellbound: A Celebration of Spelling" runs from Friday through March 17.

It includes an 1841 Webster's dictionary with an adverb that was new back then: "wordily."

A 1906 menu from the Thirteen Club honors President Theodore Roosevelt. He believed spelling should be simplified.

There's a post-Civil War spelling book created for former slaves.

An 1821 textbook promised to quickly turn young spellers into readers.

So you think you can spell? Take the library's tricky, 10-second online quiz.

For the first time the library will host the Daily News Citywide Spelling Bee on March 19-20. The winner then competes in the national contest.
