BERLIN (AP) - Germans are flocking to swimming pools, lakes and beaches to escape soaring temperatures that are expected to hit 39 degrees Celsius (102.2 Fahrenheit) on Saturday.

Meteorologists say Germany's highest-recorded temperature of 40.2 Celsius, measured in 1983, might even be reached Sunday.

Thunderstorms over the weekend are expected to bring some respite before the thermometer rises again next week.
