MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A University of Minnesota researcher is anxiously waiting to hear from his father in Nepal.
Surendra Dawadi grew up in a tiny village in the mountains of Nepal — a community that was destroyed in Saturday's 7.8-magnitude earthquake that has taken more than 4,400 lives.
Despite an infrastructure in ruins, friends were able to send him cell phone photos of the devastation in his home region. And Dawadi tells KMSP-TV (http://bit.ly/1QE8KGh ) he has been assured his 70-year-old father survived the devastation.
Dawadi has tried calling his father dozens of times a day, but has not been able to reach him.
Nepal faces a humanitarian crisis as tens of thousands have been left homeless by the earthquake and are living in the open without clean water or sanitation.
