TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State University's Center for Health Sciences is planning a scientific expedition this summer to give American Indian college students a chance to learn more about anatomy, paleontology, medicine and Native culture.
Native Explorers is part of OSU's effort to increase the number of American Indians who work in science and medicine. Participants in the May 18-29 expedition will work with American Indian research scientists from OSU and elsewhere to learn about vertebrate paleontology and natural history.
The expedition includes a trip to New Mexico to visit museums, archaeological sites and pueblos to explore the culture of the people native to that region.
Native Explorers is open to American Indians age 18 and older who are enrolled members of a federally recognized tribe. The deadline to apply is March 15.
