SALT LAKE CITY ̵2 If the mom in your life is a book lover, surprise her this Mother’s Day with a unique, beautiful and memorable book. All these choices offer something a little different and more playful than the standard novel.

1. “The Darling Buds of May” by H. E. Bates, from The Folio Society

The Folio Society, known for its gorgeous, high-quality editions, brings to life a classic story of family togetherness and zeal for life. The original novel, first published in 1958, inspired a popular British TV drama. Mom will adore the vibrant, jump-off-the-page illustrations by Alice Tait and enjoy the energetic adventures of the Larkin family.

The Folio Society has so many books that Mom would love. Browse the full catalog at foliosociety.com.

2. “Let’s Bring Back: An Encyclopedia of Forgotten-Yet-Delightful, Chic, Useful, Curious and Otherwise Commendable Things from Times Gone By” by Lesley M.M. Blume

A popular columnist for “The Huffington Post,” Lesley M.M. Blume asks whatever happened to wonderful things like cuckoo clocks and bed curtains. In this book, with the same name as her well-loved column, Blume brings together a “whimsical collection of nostalgia.” With delightful illustrations and entries from famous style and culture icons, Mom will love this trip back in time.

Two other books in this series are: “Let’s Bring Back: The Lost Language Edition” and “Let’s Bring Back: The Cocktail Edition.”

3. “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” by William Joyce and illustrated by Joe Bluhm

Children's picture books make whimsical gifts for adults. If Mom is a book lover, she must have this tale of Mr. Morris Lessmore, a man who loves words and lives in a world of magical books. The story is sweet and the illustrations captivating. The book inspired an Academy Award-winning short film of the same name.

4. BabyLit board books by Jennifer Adams and illustrated by Alison Oliver

Book lovers old and young can’t seem to get enough of these adorable adaptations of classic literature. Three new additions to the series are now available: “Sense and Sensibility,” “Wuthering Heights,” and “Moby Dick.” Also in the series: “Romeo and Juliet,” “Pride and Prejudice,” “Jane Eyre,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Dracula,” and “A Christmas Carol.” Pair with some fun swag from babylit.com and Mom will be thrilled.

5. “The Pregnancy Test: 150 Important, Embarrassing and Slightly Neurotic Questions” by Emily Sikking, M.D. and Melissa Heckscher

If the mom on your list is expecting, this quirky, fun but informative book makes a great gift. Written in a Q-and-A format, the authors present a question and then offer the answer based on current medical research. Some of the questions are important, such as “Why have I gained so much weight?” Others are tongue-in-cheek, like “Is it safe to get a bikini wax?” A quick, fun read for any mom-to-be.

6. “Safe Baby Handling Tips” by David and Kelly Sopp

Give Mom the gift of several snort laughs with this hilarious book of baby dos and don’ts. Loaded with goofy and over-the-top illustrations of what not to do with a baby, any woman with children will be rolling on the floor laughing by the time she finishes this humorous take on life with a baby.
