SALT LAKE CITY — ‘Tis the season for family, food, friends and, of course, endless amounts of shopping and stress. Well, I’m going to make this really easy on my husband this year. Honestly, he’s a lucky man. All he has to do is walk into the running store and just start grabbing stuff off the shelves and odds are I will be one happy elf.

There are a few items on my list that would make me a joyful elf. Since it is the season for sharing, let us begin:

Yoga

I started a consistent yoga routine this year and have been loving it. Give the runner in your life a gift certificate to a few sessions of yoga. There are also yoga DVDs geared specifically to runners that are great, too.

Brooks Essential Run Jacket

Some women collect purses. Others collect shoes. I collect running jackets. It’s almost obscene how many I have, but I never seem to have enough. One of my favorite brands is Brooks. While I love the one I specifically mentioned, I have many and love them all. They’re comfortable and functional with plenty of pockets to stash tissue, phones, identification and keys. The hoods even have a hole for ponytails. Genius!

Honey Stingers chews

Cherry Blossom is my flavor of choice. I can’t stomach gels. It’s a texture thing. Most chews are so large I feel like I’m a cow chewing cud on the run. Honey Stingers are just the right size and even taste great.

Mark Remy’s "C is for Chafing" book

He's one of the funniest authors around. Mark Remy has plenty of books, but this is one of my all-time favorites. In a sport that often takes itself too seriously, it’s nice to sit back and laugh a little.

Wizbang hats

Love these hats for running or just walking around town. They’re bright, playful and colorful. Even my kids love them. I wear my headband on almost every run. I love running gear that’s functional but also allows me to look like a girl. Wizbang gets that.

Running Skirts brand running skirt

In keeping with my functional yet fashionable thread, I have come to cherish my Running Skirts skirt. I have one in particular that I wore for every marathon this year. Is it a coincidence that I had the best season of my life while wearing their skirts? I don’t know, but I’m not going to change things now!

Knuckle Lights

I hate wearing headlamps, but since the days are shorter, reflective gear and lights are a must. Knuckle lights are comfortable and keep your hands free while providing plenty of light to make your presence known.

Sneaker Balls Shoe Freshener

Enough said.

Deseret News:

iFitness fuel beltTheir belts are the only ones I’ve found that don’t shimmy their way up to my neck during a run. They’re comfortable and come in so many configurations. My personal favorite has two water bottles, a pocket to store my phone and other accessories and and a place to attach a race bib. No more pins on my shirts!

Road ID

I never, ever, ever run outside without my Road ID bracelet. You never know what will happen on a run, but with my bracelet I know if I’m injured in any way, someone can reach my husband and also know if I have any special medical needs.

Nike Fast Pace tank

It’s loose enough so it doesn’t ride up during a run, but form fitting enough to be flattering. It also comes in many different colors. Simple and perfect.

"Train Like a Mother" book

I met the authors of this book a couple years ago and they are simply hilarious. Their honest accounts of life-balancing running, motherhood, jobs, and daily responsibilities are their biggest draws. Their latest book provides training plans for various levels of runners looking to take their running a little further.

iTunes gift card

‘Tis also the season for treadmill training, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be boring. Download some fresh tunes and break out the intervals!

These are some of my favorite running things. Next time I’ll highlight some of my fellow runners’ favorite gear. In the meantime, hit up your local running store for the holidays. And to my husband and kids, I could not have made this easier. The Wasatch Running Center is expecting you.
