Hot Days
Posted Aug 30th - 1:29pmHow many 100 degree days did we have this summer (2006)? Where can I find that type of information?
Thanks, Lynnette

More about Pressure
Posted Aug 30th - 12:26pmI just purchased a wireless weather station, and the barometric pressure reads 24.36 in Hg. Is this correct, I always thought it should be around 29 to 30. I live in Coalville Utah, rather than salt lake, but should it change in elevation? What is the average pressure in Coalville?

Rain Totals
Posted Aug 27th - 9:35pmWhy do you measure the precipitation in .01 (hundredths) instead of just .1 (tenths)? I know how small .01 is and is not enough to hardly get the ground wet. Even if you measure it in hundreths, why not report it in tenths? There is no difference in .02 and .07 that can be detected by a person. Why don't you report in tenths and if it is less than a tenth, report it as a trace?

Posted Aug 25th - 1:10pmEveryone has heard of the El nino andits effects it has on Utah. But what about La Nina? Is that where the watercools? And what effect does it have on Utah, does it cause droughts or things like that?

Mars and Earth email.
Posted Aug 24th - 3:09pmWe're getting more emails each day about the Mars hoax.
Mars being very close to the earth happened a few years ago, check out the link on the right.
No, mars will not be that close to earth and it won't look like the moon. The closeness event happened in 2003. Since then, every August, we get inundated with confused viewer email on this, so hopefully you can know be ahead of the game.

More Weather History
Posted Aug 23rd - 10:21amWould it be possible to query your data bases and send me the temperatures (morning, midday, evening, night, high and low) for September 7, 2002; September 6, 2003; September 11, 2004; and September 10, 2005 for the Salt Lake Valley, Brighton Ski Resort, Francis Peak or Farmington Canyon, and Bountiful City? Or simply pass on a good website where I might obtain this information? This data would be extremely helpful in preparation for the Wasatch Front 100 Endurance Run. Thank you very much for your help. David

This has to be the most common type of question we as meteorologists receive and the answer is simple but you just need to know where to dig. Since you are looking for past "climate" data, just doing a search for weather data probably won't get you the right information.
Hiking this Fall
Posted Aug 20th - 8:27pmAloha !
We are from Hawaii and are planning a Wasatch Hiking Trip next month (very beginning of September). Will this be too late to see the wildflowers in bloom at elevations such as Brighton? Will it be late enough to possibly see some fall colors in the trees? Or are we hitting it right in the middle? What will the average temperatures be like in the day and at night? Are shorts and t-shirt wearable? Is there a good chance of running into rainy weather?
MUCH MAHALO (Thank you !)
