Posted Mar 20th - 10:54am by Mike Grant and Robert Jackson

Big thanks to Justin Dahl @dahlelama for creating our UTEcast logo. Looking for the perfect gift for kids? Check out his Utah Utes ABC book link

Every week we here at the Crimson Corner are teaming up with the InsidetheUtes.com staff to bring you the UTEcast, a podcast focusing on everything Utes.

On this episode we recapped Utah's first day of spring football practice and the Runnin' Utes tournament run in Las Vegas.

Utes kick off spring football practice

Posted Mar 19th - 9:23pm by Mike Grant and Robert Jackson

SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah kicked off spring football practice Tuesday afternoon in front of fans and a plethora of media gathered at the Utes practice fields.

The weather was perfect as the Utes' offense under new co-offensive coordinator Dennis Erickson began to take shape.

Back was starting quarterback Travis Wilson, and although he struggled right at the start of practice, he got into the zone and was throwing bullets right on the money. Adam Schultz continued to shine as the best passer of the bunch, while newcomer Brandon Cox turned some heads with his excellent athleticism and his ability to make the correct read on the zone option.

Utah vs. Cal Tournament Preview

Posted Mar 14th - 3:07pm by Mike Grant

LAS VEGAS — One down, one more to go.

The Utah basketball team cannot get ahead themselves. It is time to take Crash Davis' advice and learn the clichés.

Utah has to take this one day at a time, one game at a time.

Utah vs. USC Tournament Preview

Posted Mar 13th - 2:34pm by Mike Grant

LAS VEGAS — Do the Utes have a chance? Yeah they have a chance!

The Utah basketball team is in Las Vegas for the PAC-12 tournament and they're full of confidence and realize that they have nothing to lose. With those two ingredients, plus some momentum from a great weekend, and a USC team in turmoil, that just might equal a win.

The last two games against Oregon State and Oregon were a glimpse of what Utah fans had hoped to see much earlier in the season. Better late than never. They saw a team that they could cheer for; they saw unity; they saw a winner.

Runnin' Utes getting a good player in Miller

Posted Feb 27th - 6:00pm by Mike Grant

OGDEN — The Brighton Bengals reached the semifinals Wednesday afternoon by beating the Viewmont Vikings 69-58. Brighton has a good team and senior leadership thanks to Brandon Miller.

Miller has committed to the University of Utah to play basketball, but only after he serves a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Brandon Miller will give the Utes exactly what they need, a local kid that can shoot. Miller is averaging 19.4 PPG and that includes almost three 3-pointers per game. He does all of this while the defense keys in on him. Against the Vikings, Miller went 9-14 from the field and had a game high 26 points.

VIDEO: New football facility will put Utes 'right at the top of the Pac-12'

Posted Feb 22nd - 11:52am by Mike Grant

Remember when the Utes tore down their old facility just a short time ago? The new Utah football facility is going up fast.

Robert Jackson and I are stoked about it and thanks to Director of Football Operations Jeff Rudy and the Utah football program, we went on a tour. We hope you are as excited as we are about it.

"This will put us right at the top of the Pac-12, in some aspects in the top of the country," Jeff Rudy said.

Erickson: '(Kyle) just wants us to score touchdowns'

Posted Feb 20th - 7:10pm by Robert Jackson

SALT LAKE CITY — Dennis Erickson is no stranger to college football or coaching offenses.

Known as one of the original architects of the spread offense, the 23 year head coaching veteran was introduced to the media as the co-offensive coordinator for the Utes at a press conference at the University of Utah Wednesday.

"It's a pleasure to be here and have an opportunity to work with Kyle and the coaching staff, who I've gotten to spend some time with over the last three days," Erickson said.

Utah basketball: Hard to rebuild when foundation keeps changing

Posted Feb 12th - 3:39pm by Robert Jackson

SALT LAKE CITY — "Should I stay or should I go?"

Change is continuously occurring everywhere around us. You have the good types of change, like meeting a girl that you just can't take your mind off of, spending all hours of the night talking about random sports stats, as well as your hopes, dreams and aspirations.

Then there are the bad types of change - the kind that make you long for the "good old days".

Utes hire Dennis Erickson as co-offensive coordinator

Posted Feb 11th - 7:15pm by Robert Jackson

SALT LAKE CITY — If you were ever disappointed in watching Utah's offense during its discouraging 5-7 campaign in 2012, it turns out you probably weren't alone.

The Utes finished 108th in total offense, managing a meager 324 yards per game in their second go-round in Pac-12 play.

In 2013, the Utes aren't taking any more chances.

Could Dennis Erickson end up at Utah?

Posted Feb 5th - 4:10pm by Robert Jackson

SALT LAKE CITY — The Super Bowl may be over, meaning fans will have to drudge through the spring and summer months counting down the days till next season, but football is not that far off for players and coaches, especially at the college level.

Signing day is tomorrow (we'll have a full list of the latest commits as they come in), but are the Utes up to something besides just trying to pull in the best recruits from around the country?

Runnin' Utes: Bachynski back on track, Olsen deserving of more playing time

Posted Feb 4th - 5:43pm by Robert Jackson

SALT LAKE CITY — It is a good thing that almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

The Runnin' Utes captured their first home Pac-12 win Saturday despite almost blowing a 22-point lead in the second half against Colorado.

Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak met with the media Monday during his weekly press conference to talk about the win and look ahead to the Utes road trip against Oregon State and Oregon.
