Woman shot, man injured following South Salt Lake bar fight

SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police arrested two men in connection to a bar fight that ended in gunfire, injuring two people early Sunday morning.

South Salt Lake police were called to the Scallywags Bar, 3040 South State St., at 1 a.m. following reports of a fight and shots fired, according to a prepared statement from police detective Gary Keller.

Witnesses told police the fight began inside the bar and moved into the parking lot after security guards escorted those involved outside.

“Two males ran to a vehicle and retrieved a handgun and an assault rifle and began shooting into a group of people in the parking lot,” the statement said.

A woman hit by the gunfire was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to Keller’s statement. A man was also taken to the hospital in serious condition due to injuries he sustained in the fight.

Police arrested Falefatu Fatiau, 27, for investigation of felony discharge of a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injuries, according to a probable cause statement.

Fatiau fired 11 rounds from a .223 rifle while "two other associates fired eight additional rounds toward multiple individuals, the statement read.

Police also arrested Stephano Tuisila, 22, for investigation of felony discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault.

The investigation remains ongoing and no further details were available late Sunday.
