FARR WEST, Weber County — An Ogden man who was critically injured in a nine-vehicle pileup on I-15 Tuesday afternoon died at a hospital Wednesday, authorities said.

Casey Davenport, 33, died from injuries suffered in the accident, according to Utah Highway Patrol officials.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash on I-15 northbound just south of Exit 349 in Farr West about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The crash occurred when traffic began to slow and stop in one of the northbound I-15 lanes, Utah Highway Patrol officials said. A vehicle then swerved into another lane and was struck by the semitruck, which then struck other cars that had been stopped in traffic.

Officials said Davenport was in one of the vehicles hit by the semitruck. He wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected and then struck by another vehicle, according to Utah Highway Patrol officials. He was taken by ambulance to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.

A woman who was also critically injured in the crash was upgraded at the hospital and is expected to survive, UHP Sgt. Nick Street said on Wednesday.

Five other people were transported to a hospital with minor injuries, Street said Tuesday.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Editor's note: A previous version of the article headline included "West Farr," which has been corrected to "Farr West."
