AMERICAN FORK -- A former Utah County seminary principal charged with sexually abusing a student has fired his attorney.
The Daily Herald reports that court records show Michael Pratt, 37, hired attorneys Stephen R. McCaughey and Jeremy M. Delicino last week, replacing the public defender appointed to him when he told the court he could not afford to retain counsel.
Pratt is scheduled to stand trial on 15 felony counts stemming from his alleged relationship with a 16-year-old girl starting in April. He has entered a not guilty plea for those charges.
In February, Pratt's defense team argued it needed more time to prepare for the trial, saying they have many more witnesses to interview.
Pratt's new attorneys have filed a motion to have the case continued to a later date. That motion will be heard March 16.
