The biggest controversy so far in the NHL playoffs came in the first round when the Tampa Bay Lightning on the wrong end of a couple of questionable goaltender interference rulings in the game they were eliminated by Florida in the first round. Two-time Stanley Cup-winning coach Jon Cooper landed himself in hot water for comments he made afterward and apologized for. But at least one prominent colleague publicly agreed with his premise. Challenging goalie interference is a complicated process and a delicate balance coaches worry about given how the calls can swing a game or series.

Vegas Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault is one of just five players remaining from the original 2017-18 team. There's a good chance this season was his last in Vegas. He is an unrestricted free agent who just put together his finest season by scoring 42 goals. Whether Marchessault returns is the major offseason story facing the Golden Knights but not the only one. Forward William Carrier is another "Misfit" who's an unrestricted free agent. The Knights also have to make decisions on Chandler Stephenson, Michael Amadio and Anthony Mantha at forward and Alec Martinez at defense.

The San Jose Sharks won the draft lottery and earned the right to have the No. 1 pick in the NHL draft for the first time in franchise history. And general manager Mike Grier already has an idea of who he'll be selecting: Boston University center Maclin Celebrini. The 17-year-old Celebrini has ties to the Bay Area and ranked first among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. The Sharks finished last in the overall standings and retained their position in the lottery. The lottery proved anti-climactic with no changes to the draft order. The Chicago Blackhawks, who selected Connor Bedard with the No. 1 pick last year, retained the No. 2 selection, followed by the Anaheim Ducks.

The season for the Florida Panthers cannot end on Wednesday night. It's not an elimination game, the Boston Bruins cannot close them out and no matter what happens there's a flight to Massachusetts on Thursday and another game there on Friday. So, it's not a must-win. The Panthers might feel otherwise. Game 2 of Panthers-Bruins is Wednesday night, with Boston looking to go up 2-0 in the NHL second-round playoff series. Florida-Boston is the first of two NHL playoff games on Wednesday's schedule. It'll be followed by Game 1 of Vancouver-Edmonton in a Western Conference second-round series.
