LOGAN -- A North Logan baby is dead after police say he was severely beaten. Four-month-old Jesus Yandel Martinez died Sunday night after he was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center.

Francisco Martinez, 36, was arrested Friday and booked into jail on three counts of aggravated child abuse. The charges against Martinez were amended Monday to two counts of second-degree felony child abuse and one count of first-degree felony child abuse homicide.

Police received a call from Martinez on Wednesday, saying his son wasn't breathing. Emergency crews arrived at the home near 2500 North and 300 East to find Martinez alone with four children.

Paramedics transported the infant to Logan Regional Hospital. He was later flown to Primary Children's Medical Center. He was taken off life support Sunday night.

Doctors said the infant suffered internal head injuries consistent with abuse.

Martinez is still being held in the Cache County Jail.
