Man accused of injecting heroin into friend's IV

OGDEN -- Charges have been filed against a man accused of injecting heroin into his friend's IV line while she was in the hospital. Hospital staff told investigators it nearly killed her.

According to a report from the Weber County Sheriff's Office, the woman was in the hospital after injecting heroin into her artery instead of a vein. She almost lost her hand as a result.

Still she told investigators she asked Ryan Tyler Knighton to bring more heroin to the hospital. He allegedly injected it into her IV.

A nurse said while he was in the room, alarms connected to the woman started going off and she stopped breathing. Medical workers were able to stabilize her.

Meanwhile, Knighton fled. Investigators were not able to find him in the days following the incident; however, just a few days ago he was summoned to appear in court and turn himself in, which he did.

He was booked and released, and will appear in court on Dec. 8 on felony charges of aggravated assault and distribution of a controlled substance.
