UTAH COUNTY -- The Alpine School District is exploring options to change the way it handles food allergies at school.
According to the Daily Herald, the district's proposed food allergy policy says it is parents' responsibility to make sure the school is aware of the allergy.
It also states that students in a classroom with an allergic student will be given notes to take home telling parents certain foods are forbidden in that classroom.
An allergy-free food table also can be designated in the lunchroom. The Daily Herald reports school administrators don't want to isolate students, but depending on what's on the menu, some days it could be necessary for the child's health.
The school board could vote on the draft policy as early as next month.
The paper reports the district started looking at options after a parent complained when a student had an allergic reaction.
