BYU/Fresno State Basketball Game to Change Locations

PROVO, Utah (Nov. 5, 2009) - BYU men's basketball today announced its matchup with Fresno State — originally scheduled for the Galen Center in Los Angeles — will now be played at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. The change in venue became necessary due to unforeseen issues between the event promoter and the Galen Center.

Instead of playing a single game on a neutral court, the universities have agreed to play a home-and-home series, with the Bulldogs traveling to Provo for a return game at the beginning of the 2010-11 season. The Dec. 12 meeting will be the first between the two schools since 1999, BYU's last season as members of the Western Athletic Conference.

The 2009 game will be played on Dec. 12 as originally scheduled with tipoff time and television broadcast plans to be announced at a later date.

"We were looking forward to playing in Los Angeles but unfortunately it didn't work out," BYU coach Dave Rose said. "We appreciate Coach Cleveland and the Fresno State administration working out a home-and-home series. We look forward to a great matchup the next two years."

Fresno State head coach Steve Cleveland guided the BYU basketball program from 1997-2005. In eight seasons he accumulated a record of 138-108, won two regular season conference titles, posted four 20-win seasons and made three NCAA Tournament appearances. Current BYU head coach Dave Rose served as an assistant and associate head coach under Cleveland during his tenure with the Cougars. Rose is 97-34 in his four seasons as head coach of the Cougars. He has guided BYU to four straight 20-win seasons and three-straight MWC championships.
