PLEASANT VIEW -- A man accused of kidnapping a co-worker has been booked into the Weber County Jail.
According to the Standard-Examiner, police say a 21-year-old man from Roy showed up Monday at the H.C. Brill plant in Pleasant View for a temporary job and was assigned to a trainer, who they identify as Derek Valdez.
Police say a couple of hours later, Valdez offered to take the man on a quick break to get a drink. Instead of stopping at a convenience store, police say Valdez kept driving. The worker asked to be let out of the vehicle but Valdez would not stop.
Valdez finally stopped at a parking lot in Logan. The co-worker escaped by telling Valdez he needed to use the restroom. He called police, who arrested Valdez. He was booked into Weber County Jail on kidnapping charges. Formal charges have not yet been filed.
Investigators say Valdez never made any threats or advances toward the co-worker, so they don't know a motive.
