SALT LAKE CITY -- Life just got a lot easier for residents of Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs who commute to Salt Lake County.

After nearly two years, the Redwood Road widening project from Bangerter Highway to the four corners area of Saratoga Springs is finished.

Ari Jones is one of the thousands of residents who make the daily commute to Salt Lake County to get to work.

Did you know… SR 68 project
• Spans more than 10 miles through 2 counties (Salt Lake and Utah)
• Consists of 5 lanes (2 lanes in each direction, center turn lane)
• Has widened shoulders with dedicated bike lanes on each side of road
• Took 20 months to complete and cost $72.5 million
• Handles an average of 1,600 drivers a day - UDOT

"It's nice," said Jones. "I'm tired of it taking a half hour longer to get to work."

Eagle Mountain Mayor Heather Jackson attended Thursday's ribbon cutting ceremony and called Redwood Road a lifeline to their community.

Saratoga Springs Mayor Timothy Parker was also there. He said it wasn't long ago the road was just a country lane where people would often have to stop for sheep and deer. He said he's impressed by how well the road turned out.

The widening project took 20 months to complete and cost $72.5 million.

Crews added an extra lane in both directions. Three wildlife crossings were also added.

An average 16,000 vehicles travel the road daily.
