SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell called out President Donald Trump in a tweet Saturday morning after the president insulted NBA superstar LeBron James.

“(I’m) just sad that young kids have to see stupid tweets like these and grow up thinking it’s okay,” Mitchell said.

Trump tweeted late Friday night after James was interviewed on CNN by anchor Don Lemon, whom the president called the “dumbest man on television.”

“(Lemon) made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do,” Trump said.

He added “I like Mike!” in the tweet, an apparent reference to the debate over whether James or Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.

James, an Akron, Ohio native, signed with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this summer after playing four years with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He appeared on Lemon’s show Monday, and the interview was re-aired on CNN Friday. James discussed several topics, including politics and the new I Promise School, which was founded by James’s charity organization.

The school provides at-risk students in grades 1 through 8 with STEM-based education, access to a fitness trainer and free tuition to University of Akron if they successfully graduate high school.

Mitchell accused Trump of setting a bad example for kids by insulting James.

“A sign of an insecure human being is one who attacks others to make themselves feel better,” Mitchell said.

James has not yet responded to Trump’s tweet. Most Jazz players have remained silent on Twitter, too.

Lemon responded on Saturday morning, tweeting out a link to his interview with James and adding a comment apparently referencing the Trump Administration’s controversial border security policies.

“Who’s the real dummy? A man who puts kids in classrooms or one who puts kids in cages,” Lemon asked.
