SOUTH SALT LAKE — A motorcyclist was critically injured late Saturday morning after rear-ending an SUV on State Street, officials report.
The crash happened about 11:40 a.m. when an SUV traveling north on State Street made a U-turn near 3750 South and was rear-ended by a motorcycle traveling south, according to South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller.
The motorcyclist, a 23-year-old man, was transported to a hospital in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet, Keller said.
The 49-year-old driver of the SUV was not injured in the crash, Keller said. The U-turn he made was legal, the officer confirmed, but investigators at the scene were trying to determine if the SUV had enough room to make the turn.
Southbound State Street was closed near the scene of the accident for some time while investigators analyzed the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
