LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man they say broke into a family’s vehicle and stole $8,000 worth of medical supplies and credit cards while the family was hiking in the canyon.
Officers responded to a report of a vehicle break-in around 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 17. The family was away from the vehicle parked at the White Pine trailhead for about 15 minutes and returned to find it had been broken into, Unified Police Department said in a statement.
The family reported $8,000 worth of medical supplies, which their son needs with them at all times, had been stolen. The thief also had taken the mother’s purse, including credit cards. The individual then spent $2,500 between three stores, purchasing gift cards and a drink with the credit cards.
Anyone who may know the man’s identity is encouraged to call Unified police at 801-743-8407.
