PROVO — BYU Basketball’s all-time leading scorer is coming back to the United States.

Tyler Haws, the former Lone Peak High standout who scored a school-record 2,720 points in four years at BYU, will sign a tryout contract with the Delaware 87ers of the NBA G-League, according to reports.

The news was first reported by NBA G-League reporter Chris Reichert.

Prior to his career at BYU, Haws was a two-time Deseret News Mr. Basketball honoree and Gatorade Utah Player of the Year. He chose BYU over offers from Wake Forest, Utah, Stanford, Cal, UCLA, Pepperdine and USC, among others, and was an immediate starter for the Cougars in 2009-10.

After graduating from BYU in 2015, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard signed with Obradoiro CAB in Spain’s Liga Endesa. The 26-year-old Haws spent the 2016 season in the Polish Basketball League with Anwil Wolclawek, which just finished runner-up in the Polish Basketball Supercut.

Haws’ younger brother TJ will be an incoming sophomore on the BYU basketball team after serving a two-year mission for the LDS Church in France.

Tyler Haws may also be motivated to play stateside for the upcoming season after his wife Summer, a former BYU gymnast, announced last week the couple will welcome their first child in April 2018.
