GRANTSVILLE — A Grantsville man was arrested this week after he allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl from West Valley City, according to court documents.

Dakota L. Parker, 29, was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 4 in Grantsville. He was charged with rape of a child and sodomy on a child, first-degree felonies; and with sex abuse of a child and two counts of enticing a minor over the internet, second-degree felonies.

West Valley police reported the rape of a 13-year-old girl to Grantsville police on Sept. 28, according to a probable cause statement. The girl told police she met Parker online and said she would meet up with him, according to court documents.

She said he took her to his home in Grantsville on Sept. 27, and once there, "he gave her something and ... she woke up naked the next morning," according to court documents.

The girl told police that she had chatted with Parker on Snapchat, and she and her mother gave Grantsville City police detective Lydon Allred access to her account, according to the probable cause statement. He then posed as the girl on Snapchat. He found "several messages from (Parker) asking where she was." Allred replied, obtained a phone number and verified the number belonged to Parker.

Allred kept talking with Parker on Snapchat "and talked about being 13-years-old, and Dakota showed no concern with the female being 13-years-old and asked to meet up with her again to spend the night," court documents say.

Parker arrived at the meeting location on Wednesday, and police officers followed him to a safe location where he was taken into custody.

In an interview with police, Parker admitted to having sex with the girl, but claimed he did not know her age, according to the statement.

"(Parker) also corroborated some of the details the 13-year-old provided in her interview about the night of the incident," the probable cause statement said.

Police transported Parker to the Tooele County Detention Center, where he was booked on the charges.
