GRAND COUNTY, Colorado — A Utah man was killed in a car crash in Colorado Tuesday afternoon when he drove off the side of a highway and crashed into construction equipment, police say.

Jason Christensen was traveling east on U.S. Highway 40 near Kremmling in Grand County at approximately 2:05 p.m., when he drove off the left side of the road, according to Colorado State Patrol trooper Josh Lewis. He collided with a parked asphalt roller.

Christensen, 36, of White Rocks, Utah, was declared dead on scene, Lewis said. No one was in the car with Christensen or in the construction equipment, and no one else was injured.

Officials say excessive speed may have contributed to the crash but have ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.
