LEHI — A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after a crash that left a young girl seriously injured Thursday morning, police said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of the crash at the intersection of Center Street and 700 South shortly after 9 a.m., Lehi Police Sgt. Robert Marshall said.

Marshall said both vehicles were traveling north on Center Street when one vehicle, a passenger car, collided with an SUV that was stopped at a stop sign.

“(He) hit into them without touching the brakes at all,” Marshall said.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries, but a 9-year-old girl riding in the SUV suffered serious injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital. He said the girl was alert and was able to talk to responders.

Marshall estimated the driver of the passenger car was traveling at least 40 mph before the collision, though the crash remains under investigation. The area where the crash occurred is a 25 mph zone.

Police believe alcohol factored in the crash and the male driver of the passenger vehicle, who was not immediately identified, was arrested at the scene, Marshall added.
